An Antique French Boulle Work Writing Box dating from around 1890.
The box has Boulle work panels on all four sides and on the top.
Boulle work is the application of inlaid tortice shell with brass foliate and figural marquetry. This box has is two tone with the tradisional wine colored background with a striking canary top. It’s adorned with whimsical dancing 18th century figures has Ormolu flourished feet.
The interior is empty fragrant fruitwood with removable segmented wooden insert.
The box is in good condition with no losses to the inlay or the brass stringing surround but please study my photographs for the best idea.
